Our Mission
To develop confidence, cooperation, leadership, responsibility and high standards of achievement in all of our students through our pursuit of musical and performing excellence.
The ultimate vision for the Wheeler High School Band program is to provide as many educational opportunities through musical skill and artistic excellence. Musical and artistic skill are our focal points, honed through instruction in class. Programs we offer are designed with the core focus (i.e. marching band, chamber ensembles, percussion ensemble, winter guard, jazz band, etc.) It is our hope that students will explore the opportunities afforded by every aspect of the program. While it is not necessary for students to participate in every program, it is highly encouraged. Moreover, opting out of opportunities minimizes musical growth and limits students from truly achieving their musical potential. Each opportunity is a step in producing a well-rounded musician and performer.
The primary class curriculum of the band is organized into several core classes:
Concert Band allows students the opportunity for continued development at an intermediate to advanced level. Members are encouraged to prepare for the All-State audition and to participate in the Solo & Ensemble Contest. Attendance at all out-of-school rehearsals and performances is required.
Symphonic Band musicians must be granted admission into the Symphonic Band upon audition. This ensemble performs concerts regularly including an LGPE performance. Members are encouraged to prepare for the All-State audition and to participate in the Solo & Ensemble Contest. Attendance at all out-of-school rehearsals and performances is required.
Wind Ensemble musicians must be granted admission into the Wind Ensemble upon audition. The Wind Ensemble is the top-performing organization at Wheeler High School. This ensemble performs concerts regularly including an LGPE performance. Members are encouraged to prepare for the All-State audition and to participate in the Solo & Ensemble Contest. Attendance at all out-of-school rehearsals and performances is required.
